“Okay… this is strange…” OO said suddenly, pointing to a screen of red blinking numbers and diagrams.

“Ionic radiation is off the scale. Over five hundred… Five hundred and fifty-six exactly.”

“What does that mean?” TC wanted to know right away. “The reading of over five hundred…”

“Well, it means that the area still has some traces of ionic radiation.”

“And what kind of scanner is that? I did not even know we had such a thing…” Zetra was confused.

“Well, we did not. But I bought it on a black market…”

“Oh. That is what you were doing on Rolling Star outpost.”

“Yes.”

“So, if there are traces of ionic radiation, that means that there is another ship here.”

“No… no tracking of anything here, not even visually. And the reading is dissipating.”

“It could that there was a ship here, earlier,” Samovan said and forced all the eyes to look at him. Nothing else can emit that level of radiation other than engines… Not that I know of. And if the rate of the dissipating is according to some curve, we can calculate what exact engine it was and how long ago it left.”

“And we know it was a federation vessel, a military type, probably… who else has this kind of engines.” Branden added.

“Most likely. There are other vessels who use it, like luxury space liners,” Sam added. But it’s safe to say that they would not be this far out and away from any notable tourist destination.”

“Yeah, don’t see any tourists paying good credits to go to some planet that was forgotten a long time ago and was not even finished with terraforming,” Tommy Boy added.

“Yes,” Sam said after typing on his communicator for the last few moments. “I have confirmation. Based on those emissions, those engines are TX 500 Force Mega, meaning…”

Everyone waited patiently for the answer.

“Those are new engines, placed only on Battlestar Cruisers of the ET markings.”

They took a moment to process it during which Branden used to rub it in. “I guess any of you could formulate that from the stats we received? No? I guess you all know now why I wanted Samovan here.”

“Are you sure they are not here anymore?” Little Dove wanted to know

“No,” OO Sunny said in a definite tone. “All the scanners show only an empty space.”

“And the droid came there about when?”

“A day ago.”

“So… what does that mean?” Zetra wanted to know. “And how sure you are of this?”

“Well, I plugged in the numbers into the CPU…”

“What numbers?”

“You know what Branden told me when I started to train?” Samovan said feeling all important suddenly. “How can I crank ten years of training into you now?”

“Hey, don’t be a smart ass,” Tommy Boy said.

“Well, okay… the engines emitted over five thousand particles of ion radiating per minute. And the radiation dissipates at a constant rate of… well, that depends on the environment… So, if we plug in all the info. So, let’s feed the date in the CPU again…”

They waited patiently, looking at the screen and Samovan’s fingers that were flying over the controls.
